August 5th

Disclaimer: This post is going to be a lot of rambling about my life and what I have been doing and not doing for the last 72 hours as opposed to focusing mostly on Weight Watchers things.

First things first, I would like to say that I am currently on a plane flying back to Los Angeles after a weekend of visiting some friends in the Indiana area. One friend being Ben, the guy I talk about sometimes on here and attempt to persuade you to visit his blog. You really should. Yesterday he did a triathlon that he didn’t train for at all and there are pictures on his blog documenting the event. In addition, I have stolen a picture from his blog and put it on mine. Here it is:

It’s of me passing him his helmet he needed for the 12 mile bike ride he needed to do after the quarter mile swim he had just completed and before the 5k he needed to end with. He was not happy about the whole thing and clearly I found it to be hilarious. He finished it though which was totally awesome. Good job, Ben, you are a true warrior and spirited human being.

Back to the plane thing….my flight (s) have been delayed over 3+hours and I am losing my mind, I pride myself on having more patience then the average bear but it got (and continues to be) tested. My overall feeling about the whole thing actually reminds me of this skit from Louis Ck and then I get embarrassed for being THAT person. Andddddd now I’m going to stop complaining.

To be real specific fast forward to 2:35 and watch until 3:35. Greatest minute of truth, ever. This was me today and not in a good way. I will admit, I was the person that was irritated. Then again IT DID take me 12 hours of traveling just to get from Chicago back to Burbank for God Sake. All I can say is I am 100% EXCITED that I have tickets to see this guy live in December. YES.

Last night I went to a party with Ben and his family in which his dad was bar-tending. He made me this birthday martini that tasted exactly like birthday cake so naturally I needed to drink 5.

I’m dead

Then I had a few other drinks. Then Ben made me a few other delicious adult beverages and one thing led to another and apparently I sent out a stream of text messages to people resulting in embarrassing myself, in addition to challenging Ben to a handstand competition in the backyard and it ending with me doing several cartwheel/round offs and feeling like I pulled a hamstring. Ben also found me sleeping on the couch in a position he described as lioness or animal, perched up with 2 paws positioned straight out holding up my body. This my friends, is why I don’t drink often. Anarchy ensues.

I’m going to say between all those drinks and a few party-style finger foods I consumed an obscene amount of weight watchers points but it was totally worth it.

While I was visiting Indiana I also got to experience my first sporadic thunder/lightening/heavy downpour/ trees falling/ wtf is happening storm. The day started off hot and muggy and then BOOM….more weather happened. Ben’s dad pulled down the bed of his truck and had me join him for a tailgate of sorts in his garage so that we could look out at Mother Nature doing her thang. All I could think was “If this happened in California, people would absolutely go insane. Car crashes everywhere, floods, mudslides, verbal altercations, weddings cancelled, divorces sped up, retail sales plummet, animal adoptions pending.” ok, I probably took that one too far. You get it though. I know you do.

People say California doesn’t have seasons. This pie chart proves that they are wrong. This is 100% accurate. Bum Out Central.

I also went golfing for the first time in my life which was actually way more fun then I ever thought it would be. I even got to drive the golf cart (thanks Ben) even though he made fun of me because I called it a go kart. I took this picture on the course and laughed about it because I have the mind of a 15-year-old boy who turns everything into a perverted joke. This activity took us 1.5 hours to complete and we did a good amount of walking in the heat so I know I earned some activity points which is great since I drank my weight in those birthday martinis I previously mentioned.

Ugh, sitting in the front row of a plane has its perks such as getting your drinks first, more leg room, getting the ability to listen to the stewardess talk to each other about their thyroid problems and how one of them dumped her boyfriend because she found out he was married but seriously, if I get one more wiff of the bathroom “smells” I might puke. Aside from that, no problems here.

So I am going home and going right back on the Weight Watchers train because this weekend was a bit of a free for all. I didn’t eat or do anything super out of control but I definitely could have been better. No more alcoholic induced gymnastics? Maybe. I’m going to keep that one as a good memory and something that needed to be done though.

To end this post I am going to add that in addition to this whole WW thing I am going to finally get back in the gym this week. Its time. I think I’m going to start swimming laps again considering that kind of exercise always kicks my ass but I also think its fun and it’s better on your joints and bones blah blah blah.

Volunteer applications open up on the 15th for the local hospitals so I am going to be turning in mine to do that as well. I’m already working as a Medical Social Worker for end-of-life patients but I would like to volunteer in the pediatric unit or the emergency room to continue growing in my field and broaden my competence with a different population. I am also looking into becoming a certified Doula which means I would be accompanying midwifes and serve as a support to women who are delivering babies naturally. I also would be educating couples/women during pregnancy and gearing up for labor about what to expect, etc.

Who needs that “What to Expect When Your Expecting” book when you can have a perfectly good human willing to communicate it to you AND hold your hand and rub your back while you’re delivering your baby! Awwwwwwwwwwwww, life.

Lastly, I’m going to do more things. “Things” is pretty broad and it’s meant to be that way. Whether its utilizing books I have purchased in the past to inspire new activities and fun things to do in LA, connect or re-connect with friends, do things that are a bit out of the box…. Whatever. Of course I will blog about it because that’s what I do. I blog.
